So it’s finally time for me to post the full and complete list about how to do all of the Facebook chat emoticons. There are a lot of them, and I will try to give information about each one in turn so bear with me – it may be a while…but at the same time, I know you are desperate to find out exactly what you need to type to insert the different chat emoticons into your conversations on Facebook chat!

The second newest Facebook chat emoticon in the whole of chat, it was introduced to a vigirous welcome and is used by more chatters than almost any other! Be careful going near the water!

Facebook chat penguin emoticon – <(")
The newest Facebook emoticon, and probably also the cutest! The super penguin Facebook chat emoticon is the one to send to your girlfriend if she asks for a present!

Facebook chat woot emoticon – O.o
If you can’t believe what the person you’re talking to just said, give them a w000t face! They’ll soon realise you’re suprise!

Facebook chat kiss emoticon – :*
The first of the romantic emoticons to use in your chats – the kiss also incorporates a small wink!

A cute wink can deliver any number of different meanings – just remember if you’re going to send it to your crush, make sure your girlfriend or boyfriend isn’t watching!

Sticking out your tongue in some cultures can be very offensive, however if it’s a Facebook chat emoticon I think you won’t be sent to prison (yet!).

My future’s so bright, I have to wear shades! But I will never wear them indoors – only movie stars do that!

Inspired by Japanese manga, this ‘happy eyes’ emoticon is a good way of showing your complete contentment with somebody close.

The three coolest Facebook chat emoticons

As we all know, Facebook chat has taken over as the defacto online chatting network. I don’t mean it’s better than MSN (in fact, ironically it seems that Facebook chat’s introduction into the world of online socialising has cemented MSN’s position as the best client based chat available), however it is certainly growing all the time (I read on an official Facebook blog that more than a billion messages are sent on the service every day, and who knows how many Facebook chat emoticons are sent!

Anyway, this site is all about those little emotes that we send every day to show our feelings towards our friends and families on Facebook chat. In the future I will provide you with a full list of the Facebook chat emoticons availabel to use, as well as their keyboard shortcuts, but for now let me talk to you about my three favourite smileys and why they are so cool and important to me!

Facebook emotion number 1 – The Pacman Facebook chat emoticon
When Facebook finally introduced its chat service, many people were suprised by how ‘light’ it seemed – it was pretty fast loading (after the initial teething problems) and it did not seem to have ahuge number of bells and whistles – it was simply a Facebook style functional chat program. However, once we started looking under the bonnet, we found that the programmers had actually included a large number of extremely cool chat emoticons for its users to take advantage of, and the all-round favourite was the Pacman emoticon! The rebirth of the tiny little yellow guy who eats ghosts was a tour-de-force for the Facebook programmers who seemed to revel in their retro outlook. Very cool!

Facebook emote number 2 – The Facebook chat shark emoticon
The first of the ‘new’ emoticons to hit Facebook chat, and one of the most frequently used smileys is another throwback to the 1980s, and the movie scene which included one of the scariest animals ever to grace the big screen – Jaws the shark! The shark emoticon suddenly turned huge numbers of Facebook users into water-phobics, and a lot of people decided to hide behind their keyboards instead of going towards the water cooler again…

Facebook smilie number 3 – The Facebook chat penguin emoticons
The newcomer on the scene of chat on Facebook, but one of the most popular emoticons not just in this social network, but on the entire internet! The penguin represents a lot of things that computer geeks appreciate – linux (the open source operating system) even use the penguin as their mascot (although I’m not entirely sure why). This penguin has been used by huge numbers of people on Facebook chat as means of saying different things – but the most common is that they have a cute little crush on you!

These are, in my opinion, the best ones, but I realise that attitudes differ for everyone (and for different reasons). The Pacman, the shark and then penguin are my three favourite Facebook chat emoticons – what are yours?

Facebook is, right now, the most popular website in the world, and that is shown by the number of people who are now using Facebook chat emoticons to talk with their friends. It’s really astounding that just five short years ago, Facebook was actually two words which didn’t really flow very well together, and now it is a noun and a verb!

Facebook smileys have become a part of our everyday lives, and with good reason. For a start, when chat was first introduced on the biggest social network in the world, there was no list or help associated with the face icons that we could use with our conversations. So what happened? People did research – they tested and tried and experimented and finally we had a list of all of the potential combinations and permutations that we could use to make smilies and emotes for Facebook chat. It took a long time, and I admit that I couldn’t find them all (a lot of them seemed to be secret or hidden).

Anyway, after a little more time, more and more websites published full lists of the Facebook chat emoticons, and many people were very happy. I, for one, was ecstatic, because there were a lot of emotes that nobody had ever seen before. I don’t think I was alone in thinking that it was crazy to have a Pacman emoticon in Facebook chat! I mean, that guy had disappeared during the coin-op days of the 80’s, but it was clear that the team at Facebook were quite ‘retro’ in their designs. There was also a cool robot emoticon which seemed to be a throwback to times gone by.

There are, of course, a number of other Facebook chat emoticons for your to choose from, including some of the omre ‘traditional’ ones such as a smiley face, a big smiley face, a love heart (and a broken heart!). There is also an angel, a devil and someone who is crying.

Then Facebook pulled a big change – they inctroduced a new emoticon! Nobody was expecting it (since Facebook had been so low key about their chat emoticons), but there it was – in full technicolor – a shark! Suddenly, people all over the world were scared that Jaws may jump out of their screens and bite them in the mouse-finger. Luckily, I’m pretty sure no long-term injuries were suffered.

A couple of months ago, Facebook introduced their second ‘extra’ or hidden emoticon – the penguin! It’s a very cute and adorable creature – very different from its predecessor. Now it is a mainstay in the Facebook chat emoticons arsenal – but the question is, what’s your favourite?
